The second period proved to be the biggest difference for the U18 AA Weyburn John Hulbert Construction Wings Sunday, as they fell 5-3 to the U18 AA Swift Current Broncos.

Weyburn had jumped out to a lead in the first period when Memphis Walter scored an unassisted marker with 7:24 left to play in the frame. Then, Swift Current tied it up in the second period.

Garrett Kurtz scored for the Broncos at the 6:03 mark of the second to make it a 1-1 game. Weyburn responded just seconds later, as Donavin Mellon found the back of the net. He was assisted by Noah Kopec on the goal.

The flurry of offence in the period continued. At the 8:31 mark of the frame, Campbell Pinsonneault scored on the power play for Swift Current to make it a 2-2 game. Weybur regained the lead less than two minutes later when Ty Boren scored an unassisted shorthanded goal with 9:47 left on the clock.

Before the period was over, Colton Leahy scored on the power play for Swift Current to make it a 3-3 game, and then Pinsonneault would get another power play goal with 1:39 remaining to give the Broncos their first lead of the day.

In the third, Weyburn wasn’t able to beat Swift Current goaltender Cade Doane, and Pinsonneault would add one more goal as an insurance marker, and to finish off the hat trick, at the 4:00 mark of the period.
