The 2nd annual Meat-Raiser is underway at Weyburn Comprehensive School (WCS).

The meat fundraiser is organized by the School Community Council (SCC), to help raise funds for the development of outdoor activity areas and equipment for Eagles' students.

Nicole Blackburn, Teacher Representative on WCS's SCC, said that this year they've partnered with Maurer's Meats. They are encouraging all students in grades seven to 12 to sell. The fundraiser this year has everything from pork chops to steak, chicken, pork souvlaki, and even perogies.

"Last year, we had great success with our fundraiser," Blackburn said. "We partnered with Western Prime Meats last year, and this year we've switched to Maurer's Meats and hope to continue to alternate years."

Blackburn mentioned that they are looking at developing, for example, pickleball courts for their students to have access to. "Our goal is just to help our school out as a SCC, and to provide opportunities for our students."

In terms of a timeframe for the outdoor activity areas and equipment, she explained that it is a bit more of a long-term process. "We're looking into other sources of funding, like community grants. It's going to be a, you know, a longer-term project and then to keep expanding on it."

Blackburn shared that the top five student sellers will receive a gift card from the SCC. "So there are some prizes attached to this fundraiser. That's why we encourage the students to sell; the more they sell, the more opportunities for them to win."

Blackburn added that for anyone interested in placing an order, "they can contact any of our WCS students, all students should have an order form. If not, they can contact WCS's main office at 306-842-7494, to place an order."

They accept cheques, cash or e-transfer.

The Meat-Raiser started on March 1st, and will run until March 15th.
