After getting above seasonal temperatures last week, this week is starting off cold, with things expected to warm up Thursday.

The forecast is calling for a few centimeters of snow and high winds this evening and throughout the day tomorrow.

“We are seeing those winds start to increase in the overnight period and continue strong through the day tomorrow and then switching directions,” Meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, Terri Lang said. “There's been kind of a crust that's formed on the older snow, so it's only new snow that we'll be able to blow.”

Lang said that there is a risk of reduced visibility in exposed areas.

“Where there's no trees or anything to catch the snow, that's usually with the worst areas that we'll see,” she said. “Of course it does tend to ice up the highways as well.”

Lang wants drivers to be prepared if they are hitting the highway.

“Just a friendly reminder about checking highway hotline before heading out onto the highways, checking those road conditions, checking the forecast, and making sure your car is ready to face winter conditions.”

Lang said the weather rollercoaster that we’ve been seeing will continue for the next little while.
