The Weyburn Chamber of Commerce and Community Futures Sunrise have collaborated to launch a new initiative aimed at empowering local youth to develop their entrepreneurial skills, with the exciting prospect of winning $500.

Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce, Monica Osborn explains more, “Last year the Chamber came out with a youth membership. So, anyone under the age of 18 could become a member of the Chamber. We were trying to figure out ways that we could really capitalize and bring those youth in and give them just some extra information that the Chamber can provide to them. So, we have partnered with Community Futures Sunrise to bring a business workshop for our youth, and we have called it NextGen Innovation Showcase.”

The showcase is open to youth who already have a small business or who have a business idea they would like to develop.

“There is no charge, we are taking a limited number of 10 participants for that workshop, and they are going to get some expert advice on how to do a cash workflow sheet. Get their business plans together as well they are going to get information about how to pitch their business because they're going to come back later in April to do a pitch session for a chance to win $500 as well as a free chamber membership.”

The initial stage of the event consists of a workshop scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday, March 15th. Participants will reconvene on Friday, April 19th for a pitch session, where they will present their business ideas to a panel of judges. Participants are welcome to invite friends and relatives to join them.

Limited space is available, only 10 participants will be accepted, and while the event is free, pre-registration is required. To secure your spot call the Chamber of Commerce at (306)842-4738 or you can sign up through the Eventbrite link .
