Families can mark their calendars while businesses and organizations prepare their floats for the 29th Annual Parade of Lights, taking place on Thursday, December 1st at 7:00 p.m.

"The parade of lights is very spectacular. The Weyburn Chamber of Commerce is honoured to be able to bring it to our residents of Weyburn and to just enjoy it, and it's just such a great way to kick off the holiday season," said Executive Director Monica Osborn.

She said that, of course, Santa Claus has been confirmed to attend the event as well, in addition to all of the extravagant floats.

"It always amazes me the creativity that people come up with, and it's just such a great team-building experience for the businesses or organizations," Osborn noted. "I think everyone just enjoys having that spirit of Christmas coming alive and being able to see the children's faces and adults as well and just be in awe of the amazing floats."

Keeping with tradition, best organizational and best business float will be awarded if they register in advance, with the registration deadline being at noon on November 30th.

"We will accept people just to drive in, but we do encourage pre-registration so if you could register on before November 30th that would be great."

There is no cost to participate in the parade.

"You can register for the Parade of Lights and it's open to anyone," she informed. "For businesses, organizations, members, nonmembers, a great way to get your business exposed in front of lots of people."

Osborn said they will be blocking off Third Street from Railway Avenue to Coteau Avenue, and a number of downtown businesses will likely be taking advantage of the crowds with something special that night.

Due to potentially icy conditions, the Chamber is encouraging those handing out candy or other trinkets to walk and pass them out rather than throwing it.

"Safety is the number one concern of ours and we just want to make sure that everyone just enjoys the evening."

Be sure to dress warm, don't park on the street along the route, and come out on Thursday, December 1st to this wonderful annual event.
