Last night the Weyburn Chamber of Commerce held its Annual General Meeting and President’s Dinner at the Weyburn Legion.

The Chamber’s new President, Stephen Schuck was sworn in at the event.

“First off, what a great honor becoming the president and having the support of my other board members and the rest of the Chamber and taking this position,” said Stephen Schuck. “And secondly, I’m grateful that we’re able to gather together in person after two years of events like this being cancelled.”

He added that moving forward in his position, he wants Weyburn to be a hub for business across the province.

“We have many communities here in both our agricultural industries and our oil industries, but there are many other untapped opportunities that we need to explore as a community. My goal as a president is just to make Weyburn and the Weyburn community a supportive place for families and for business.”

The Golden Spike Award was presented to Rod Nieviadomy, who has had many contributions to the community over the years. Nieviadomy was a long-time member of the Weyburn Credit Union Board, President of the Weyburn Golf Course for several years, and taught at the Weyburn Comprehensive School for a number of years.

“I know how involved he is with the community and at the Weyburn comprehensive school,” said Schuck, who was a student of Nieviadomy. “He's a pillar there. He is all about the kids and puts them first and he's truly a deserving recipient of the award.”

Nieviadomy said that a highlight of his career is working with young men and women and helping them develop their lives.

“You know, when you first hear that you're going to win the award, I just looked at the list of people that had won the award previous to me, and I'm very honoured to be on that list.”

There were two guest speakers at the event, Chair of Martin Charlton Communications, Paul Martin, and Youth Biz Winner Kamryn Doud.
