Weyburn Police Service Officers conducted a traffic stop last week that led to a driver being charged and a vehicle impounded.

Officers discovered the licence plate did not belong to the vehicle, and it was found to be unregistered. Police said the driver was also using a suspended driver's licence.

"It wasn't a stolen plate, it just didn't belong in our vehicle," Deputy Police Chief Brent VanDeSype said. "Sometimes if someone driving an unregistered vehicle, they might take a false plate and put it on their vehicle, so whether they swapped it from a vehicle that they own or another vehicle, but it was not a stolen."

He added that this is not a common occurrence but it does happen.

The vehicle was impounded, and the driver was charged accordingly.
