It’s been 50 years since Weyburn’s fastball team won the Canadian Championships in September of 1972.

Buzz Bent of Weyburn played on the team for many years.

“We were in the Inner City Fastball League with Regina teams, and Moose Jaw played in there for a few years," Bent said. “We were fortunate enough to win the Canadian Championship in 1972, the smallest city in Canada to ever win it, so it was quite a thrill for everybody.”

Bent added they were the only Saskatchewan team who has won the championship.

“Usually Victoria, Edmonton, Calgary, or Richmond Hill, they were always the teams to beat, so it's quite unique that a little town like Weyburn could win it.”

Bent has lost track of some of the players from the team as it has been quite a long time since he has played.

“There are still three of us, I think, that are alive, there might be some more, but I lost track with everybody.”

While there are parts that he forgets, he said had a lot of fun and still remembers most of the experience.
