Add to that around 3,000 spectators and you've got the 2017 Saskatchewan Provincial Cheerleading Championships which were held in Weyburn on Saturday.

The Weyburn Comprehensive School was filled with cheerleaders, dancers, family and friends, volunteers, organizers - and of course, lots of glitter.

"We started off knowing that we wanted to bring provincials to Weyburn to show the community what cheerleading is really all about," said Kyla Moffatt, who was one of just a few organizers planning the event.

"The sport has grown exponentially in our province in the last five years and the people in Weyburn just don't understand or know what it's all about.

"They've seen our school teams perform but there is so much more than what we do at our school level."

The senior level Weyburn Eagles clinched first place, while the junior level Weyburn Eagles finished third. The Weyburn All-star Bluebirds clinched first place in the prep level and were named the division grand champion.

Coach of the senior level Eagles, Kyla Moffatt, was named the coach of the year. The team will be holdin gtheir showcase Monday night at the Cugnet Centre.

More results will posted when they become available.
