Carol Reeve, who was a big part of the arts community in Weyburn, passed away on Thursday, April 7 at the age of 76.

Reeve was the Vice Chair of the Weyburn Arts Council.

“Carol has been a fixture on the Arts Council as long as I've been involved in it, which is about 10 years now.” said Curator and Arts Coordinator, Regan Lanning. “So, I don't remember a time in the Weyburn art scene that Carol wasn't there.”

Lanning added that Reeve could always be counted on to show up whenever you needed her, and was also a regular part of the James Weir People’s Choice art exhibition.

“So, a lot of times if you are a part of the Art Council or the art scene in Weyburn when you come to view the James Weir, you know who probably 75 percent of the artists are, even though I don't have artists names listed, but Carol’s pieces would always confuse people because every year there was something completely different.”

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held this Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church. Interment will take place at a later date.

“She was a part of the Variations Choir as well for many years, and she also sat on the board of the Tommy Douglas Performing Arts Center. So, she was a very busy lady and she had her hands in a lot of pots and she will be greatly, greatly missed.”

People are encouraged to donate to the Weyburn Art Council in memory of Carol Reeve.

“It’s the most Carol thing possible, she leaves this earth, encouraging people to help out the arts. So, it was a moment where I shed a few tears thinking that Carol even in her passing, she's thinking of us and doing her best to support us.”

Donations in memory of Carol can be made to the Weyburn Art Council at 540 5th Street northeast Weyburn, SK S4H 2A1.
