One hundred lunches each weekday are given out to families in need in Weyburn, thanks to the Weyburn Salvation Army.

Parents and/or children can pick up the lunches at the south parking lot of Souris School between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Community Ministries Coordinator, Shannon Fodchuk, said they have the help of volunteers with packing lunches every weekday morning.

"We do that from 9:30 to 11:00, and then after we're done that we go up to the Souris School parking lot, set up there, and they help hand the lunches out to the kids," she explained.

Fodchuk said they've also had help from various organizations with sponsoring the lunches, including the Domesticated Caker, White Cap Resources, NSWB, C&D Electric, Steel Wreath, the St. Onge Family, and Grace United Church.

"We've had a lot of people come up and help out," she shared. "We still have seven days left that we're looking for sponsors for us in August, so if anybody is interested in sponsoring a lunch, they can give me a call."

NSWB Law Firm, she noted, has now equipped the Food Bank with drinks for those who need refreshments while downtown.

"So what that means is we are stocking up our fridge with water and Gatorade, and if anybody is downtown or anybody around, that is parched from the summer heat and needs like some water or Gatorade to cool down, they can come into our building and ask, and we'll give them what they need. And they can even just hang out and cool down."
