The U18 AAA Richardson Pioneer Gold Wings opened up their postseason in Swift Current Friday night. The Gold Wings would head into the third period with a 2-1 lead, despite being outshot 28-12 in the first 40 minutes, but five goals from the Wildcats in the third would give them a 6-2 victory, and a 1-0 series lead in the best of three series.

Weyburn would take the lead with just 1:30 to play in the first period when Ashton Bender scored her first of the playoffs. She was assisted on the goal by Kendal Leader and Addison Long.

In the second period, Swift Current would bounce back just 1:52 into the frame as Calla Kampen beat Hailey Sibbald to make it 1-1. The Gold Wings would answer, though, as Paisley Arntsen replied at the 6:11 mark. Her goal was assisted by Julianne Girardin.

The Wildcats would then put 23 shots on goal in the third period. Sadie Keller opened the scoring at the 7:09 mark, followed by Olivia Kirwan 46 seconds later. Then, Ella Wingert scored on the power play with 7:35 remaining, followed by a goal from Addison Eurich just over three minutes later. The last goal of the night came from Kyla Benjamin.

Game two of the series is scheduled for Sunday evening at Crescent Point Place. The puck drop is at 5:00 p.m.
