Weyburn Police issued their weekly Police Report yesterday. Overall, it was a quiet week with a few traffic collisions police were called to. There was one incident, however, that will now be taken before the courts.

On September 28, the WPS was called to a domestic dispute between a 24-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman. The female pulled the fire alarm as she was leaving the apartment complex after an altercation. Upon further investigation, both were charged with assault and the woman was also charged with mischief and causing a false alarm of a fire.

Police Chief Marlo Pritchard said although it's rare, deliberately pulling a fire alarm incorrectly is a criminal offence.

"It's a criminal code offence to basically make a false alarm for a fire, so that individual was charged under that. It will be spoken to in court at one of that individual's appearances coming forward," Pritchard explained.

The result of the charge is typically a fine. Both parties were released from custody and will appear in court at a later date.
