Last week kicked off with a more uncommon occurance for the Weyburn Police Service.

An intoxicated female was arrested following a noise complaint, and charges included two counts of assaulting a police officer.

Deputy Chief Brent VanDeSype says this was for kicking the officers.

"On Tuesday evening, it was just before eleven p.m., I guess officers were called to a noise complaint and they ended up with a little bit more as they located an adult female that was in the driver seat of a vehicle.
It was running. She was intoxicated, and during the arrest the female resisted and both officers were kicked."

VanDeSype said, "she now faces charges not only of impaired operation of a conveyance and refusing to comply with the breath demand, but also for resisting arrest, and two counts of assaulting a police officer."

He noted these are criminal code charges, and intoxication is likely the reason for the escalated circumstances.

"There's a number of factors, but definitely the intoxication and the state of mind," said VanDeSype. "Often when we're dealing with people, they may not be having their best day and not in the best state."

The individual will be facing the criminal charges in virtual court.
