Three men are in custody after the Weyburn Police Service executed a warrant Thursday night with a bang.

The WPS, with assistance from the Tactical Joint Task Force, which includes members of the Weyburn and Estevan Police Services, executed the warrant on the southwest side of the city. The warrant was a CDSA warrant, which is used for drug-related investigations.

Residents in the area reported a loud bang during the execution of the warrant, which some thought was a gunshot. However, Deputy Police Chief Brent VanDeSype confirmed it was not a gunshot, but rather was part of the execution of the warrant.

“During the execution of the warrant, a sound device was used, which basically gives off nothing more than a loud bang,” VanDeSype explained. “It’s just a device that can be used, or utilized by the team while making entry into the residence and executing the warrant.”

The three men are currently in custody in relation to the warrant that was executed. Charges are pending as the investigation continues. Police are expecting to be able to release further information at a later time.
