The Sunrise Early Learning & Teen Parent Support Centre in Weyburn recently received a donation of funds to be able to purchase a new, larger, and more durable stroller so that they can explore Weyburn in style!

"Yeah, so we approached the Young Fellows after talking with a couple of our parents who are on the Young Fellows board, which we're lucky enough to have," explained Jessica Maas, Early Childhood Educator, and Fundraising Coordinator at Sunrise Early Learning & Teen Parent Support Center. "We found that through last summer, with the pandemic we weren't able to go to the playgrounds and do all the normal outings that we typically do in the summer. So we've been doing a lot of walks with the kids instead. We have children of all ages, from as young as three weeks to all the way up to 11 years old. And so our younger kids, they were getting tired on the walks. And so we were taking strollers with us. And we were just finding that we were going through a lot of strollers. So when we approached the Young Fellows, we asked them if they would be able to donate the funds to purchase a really durable, high-quality stroller that we can use for our infants and toddlers to go on lots of walks for the whole year."

The Young Fellows have been helping out our community for almost 100 years with fundraising events, volunteering, and various other local projects.

"When I was approached by Sunrise Early Learning Centre for funding from the club towards a multi-child stroller, I felt it was an opportunity to impact the lives of an age group that we may not necessarily get to often," told Chad Ror, Active Member of the Young Fellows Club of Weyburn. "These young children are the future of our community and there may even be a future Young Fellow or two in that group. My child actually attends that daycare but he is too old now to enjoy the new stroller. However, I’m sure he did his part to wear out the old one. We were extremely happy for the opportunity to support one of our essential institutions in town that helps to mold the future of our young people."

Now the Sunrise Early Learning Centre is anxiously awaiting the delivery of their brand new stroller.

"Hopefully we'll be able to get that soon so that we can start using it," Maas expressed. "So we're just patiently waiting for the delivery guy to drop it off. So we would just like to give a huge thank you to the Young Fellows. I don't think they realize just how gracious they are in donating something like that. Because we are a nonprofit organization and our parent fees don't usually cover the actions like that. They usually just cover the essentials. And so it's really great when we have the support from our local community groups. So we can get the word out about what we do at the centre and how important our work really is. So thank you so much to everyone involved."
