Athletes from southeast Saskatchewan are looking to make their mark on the national stage in Red Deer. They are members of Team Saskatchewan and will be participating in the Canada Winter Games, which kick off Friday and run until March 3rd.

The region will be represented in a variety of sports.

Weyburn’s Wayne Ducharme will be stepping into the boxing ring where the provincial colours.

The women’s hockey team will include two athletes from southeast Saskatchewan, with Wapella’s Allison Hayhurst and Wilcox’s Ashley Messier on the roster. On the men’s hockey team, Kyle Bochek from Moosomin will be in the lineup.

Shallen Bear, from Whitewood, will be the lone athlete from the southeast on the figure skating team.

A number of athletes from the southeast are on the ringette team. Abby Corney, Hanna Corney and Anna Markwart from Emerald Park, along with Briana Hess from Pilot Butte and White City’s Holland Kozan.

There are two athletes from the southeast participating in the judo competition. On the men’s side, Stanislav Sheshnev from Indian Head will be competing. Kronau’s Paige Irwin will be in the women’s competition.

There is a lone archer from the southeast on Team Saskatchewan. Estevan’s Hunter Chipley will be in the events in Red Deer.

The curling team from Saskatchewan will have representation from the southeast. Brecklin Gervais from Kronau and Andrew Myers from Balgonie are part of the provincial rink.

There are also two athletes from the southeast on the wheelchair basketball team. Tanner and Bryson Bolianatz from Pilot Butte will be competing.
