It was a busy weekend for Atom girls teams from Weyburn, with games being played here in Weyburn and in Rosetown on the weekend.

The DQ Blizzards were on the road, taking on the Western Prairie Redwings for a pair of games Saturday.

The first game was in the morning and would be a 5-4 win for Weyburn. The Blizzards jumped out to the lead as Zoe Kerr scored just 4:15 into the game. The Redwings replied just over five minutes later, but the visitors were undeterred.

File photo of the DQ BlizzardsThe Blizzards regained the lead when Peyton Birnie found the back of the net. Western Prairie didn’t waste much time replying, as they evened the game up 2-2 just over 30 seconds later.

Weyburn would regain the lead before the end of the period when Cadence Wawro scored, making it 3-2 as the teams headed to the dressing room.

The Blizzards would make it a two-goal lead early in the second as Marlie Fleck scored, assisted by Jaya Clark. Again, Western Prairie would reply, keeping the deficit at just one heading into the third period.

Up 4-3, Kerr scored her second goal of the game, making it 5-3 before the Redwings added one more goal of their own.

The two teams had a short turnaround before meeting back on the ice for their second game of the day. It would end a 3-3 draw.

Western Prairie would be the first on the board in the second game, scoring with 7:51 left in the first period. Weyburn responded in the second as Jaya Clark found the back of the next. Weyburn then took a 2-1 lead as Birnie scored her second goal of the day, assisted by Zoe Kerr.

The Redwings tied the game up early in the third, but Kerr restored the lead just past the five-minute mark. The Blizzards looked like they were going to pick up the 3-2 win, until a goal with just 50 seconds remaining forced the tie.

While the Blizzards were in Rosetown, the AtoMc Red were at home, hosting the Estevan Bearcats. The Bearcats would come away with a 4-1 victory.

Weyburn was the first on the board, scoring just 1:04 into the first period. Tyra Kmita would hit the twine behind Estevan goalie Kiera Barker to make it 1-0. The score would hold until the third period when the Bearcats offence erupted.

Miley Lockerby opened the scoring in the third, then Gracyn Einarson would give the visitors the lead 90 seconds later. Einarson would make it a 3-1 game with a goal in the second half of the period, and Ella Fornwald closed out the scoring with a goal with 1:42 remaining.

AtoMc Red would be back on the ice Sunday at home, this time taking on the Southwest Cyclones, who were in town for three games on the weekend. The home team would come out on top in this one, picking up a 4-1 victory.

Kmita opened the scoring in the first period, getting the goal just past the ten-minute mark of the first period. Kmita then made it a 2-0 game with two minutes left in the second period, with Araya Lasko picking up the assist.

Just four minutes into the third, it became a 3-0 game when Payton Roth scored for AtoMc Red, assisted by Nelleke Vogel. The Cyclones responded in the third with their lone goal of the game, before Kmita finished off the hat trick with 2:45 left on the clock.

File Photo of AtoMc GoldThe Cyclones started their weekend off playing AtoMc Gold twice Saturday afternoon. The first game was a 4-4 draw, as Weyburn rallied throughout the game.

The Cyclones started off the scoring in the second period and jumped out to a 2-0 lead by the time the opening 40 minutes were over. Another goal just past the five-minute mark of the third had AtoMc Gold on their heels, but they would answer the challenge.

The scoring started with Havyn Walbaum getting a goal for Weyburn. Then, Brenna Verbeurgt would score, making it a 3-2 game. Then, Walbaum’s second of the game would make it 3-3.

Southwest responded with a goal with 3:47 left on the clock, but AtoMc Red got out from behind the eight ball. Walbaum completed the hat trick with just over two minutes left in regulation.

The two teams would meet again later in the day Saturday, and this time, it was a completely different outcome from the early game. Weyburn would jump out to a 4-0 lead in the first period, and not look back as they went on to win 9-1.

Alexis Bauman opened the scoring just 45 seconds into the game, and then Walbaum would add another goal just past the four-minute mark. Walbaum then added another to make it 3-0 Weyburn before she finished off the natural hat trick with 6:33 remaining in the first period.

The Cyclones were able to respond in the second with their lone goal of the game before the scoring resumed for Weyburn at a torrid pace. Clair Taylor would score, assisted by Walbaum, with 12:18 left in the period. Tori Fingler then added a goal of her own, assisted by Bauman.

Jillian Forseth would find the back of the net at the 6:33 mark of the third, and then Bauman scored her second of the game 20 seconds later. The scoring was rounded out by Samara Seghers with 2:53 left in the period.
