The Bantam AA Whitecap Resources Wings wrapped up the regular season Saturday afternoon, as they entertained the Saskatoon Outlaws. The Wings needed a win to ensure they would finish fifth in the SAAHL South Division standings, while the Outlaws entered the game with fourth place in the North Division essentially sewn up.

It would be the Wings who came away with the win, using four goals in the second period to power their way to a 6-2 win over the visiting team.

The Wings opened the game with the first goal, as Ty Boren found the back of the net on the power play at the 6:17 mark of the first period. He was assisted on the goal by Ryker Watt and Blaze Gutzke.

The Outlaws followed it up with a power-play goal of their own before the period was over. Luke Korte scored on Dylan Ernst with 3:49 left in the frame.

In the second period, the Wings came out determined to regain the lead, and they did it with flair.

The scoring all came in the second half of the period and started as Boren scored his second of the game with 10:10 on the clock. The short-handed tally was assisted by Dallen Oxelgren and Gutzke.

Watt then made it a 3-1 game with 6:44 remaining in the period. His goal was assisted by Boren and Daxin Peterson. It took just 25 seconds for Weyburn to add to the lead. Ty Mason scored with 6:19 left in the frame, assisted by Van Eger.

The scoring in the second period was finished off by Cooper Walbaum. He scored while the Wings were shorthanded with 3:54 left on the clock. He was assisted on the goal by Samuel Borschowa.

Saskatoon finally replied in the third period. Berkly Catton scored at the 5:05 mark of the period while the Outlaws were on the power play. It wouldn’t be enough to spark his team, however.

Ernst remained perfect from that point on to secure the win, and Wyatt LaCoste added an insurance marker with 6:4 4 left in regulation. Gutzke notched his third assist of the game on the goal, with the other helper credited to Wyatt Godlonton.

The Bantam AA Wings will now prepare for the postseason. They will be taking on the Swift Current Broncos in the first round. The dates for the series have yet to be determined.
