The Bantam AA Whitecap Resources Wings were back on home ice Tuesday, playing host to the Regina Monarchs at Crescent Point Place. The game was the first back in Weyburn for the team since they wrapped up a three-game, three-night road trip on the weekend.

The game was a back and forth affair, with the goaltending being a highlight for both teams. Ultimately, it was the Wings who came out on top, winning 3-2 in overtime over the visitors.

After the two teams skated to a deadlock in the first period, Weyburn broke the ice with a goal just 3:21 into the second period. Ryker Watt would get the puck past Regina goaltender Dylan Sakundiak for his 11th of the season. The goal was assisted by Cooper Walbaum.

Regina would tie things up shortly after Weyburn got the scoring started. Kolton Agarand scored on Dylan Ernst, making it a 1-1 game.

The Wings weren’t going to let the tie stand heading into the third period, though. Ty Mason would score shorthanded with 4:05 left on the clock in the second period, giving Weyburn a 2-1 edge. Ty Boren picked up the assist on the goal.

In the third period, the goaltenders continued to play strong at both ends of the ice, in particular, Ernst in the Weyburn end. He faced 17 shots and turned away 16 of them. The lone puck to get past him was a power play goal by Marshall Erichsen to tie the game up with 6:27 remaining in the third.

In the overtime period, Ty Mason would score his second of the game with just under three minutes left to go. The goal, his eighth of the year, was assisted by Matt Morhart.

The Wings improved to 5-5 on the season, and are now tied with Prairie Storm for first in the South Division. The next game for Weyburn is Saturday in Balgonie when they take on Prairie Storm with first place in the division likely to be on the line.
