It was a busy weekend for the Bantam AA Whitecap Resources Wings, as they were on a three-game, three-night road trip which started Friday night in Nipawin against the Northeast Wolfpack.

The Bantam AA Whitecap Resources Wings paid their respects at the Humboldt Broncos memorial Friday. (submitted photo)The team took a few moments on the trip to Nipawin for the game to pay their respects to the Humboldt Broncos, and Weyburn Minor Hockey alum Adam Herold. The team stopped at the scene of the bus crash involving the Broncos in April, and the makeshift memorial.

"Surreal, powerful, saddening, heartbreaking. Just a few of the emotions that I personally felt as we paid our respects to our fallen family, our angels above us," tweeted Bantam Wings coach Willy Mason about the stop.

After the sombre moments, they got back on the bus and finished the trip to Nipawin. The road trip didn’t start how the team would have liked, though, as they fell 3-2 in the opener.

The Wings found themselves down after the first period, but Van Eger tied the game up 1-1 with a power-play goal with 2:26 left in the second period. Matt Morhart picked up the assist on the goal. The Wolfpack would regain the lead early in the third, but at the 4:23 mark, Weyburn again tied things up. Eger scored his second goal of the game, again on the power play, with Quinn Mantei and Samuel Borschowa assisting.

Northeast would get the goal ahead goal late, though, scoring on the power play with nine minutes left.

The Wings then travelled to Humboldt Saturday for a match-up against the Bantam Broncos. In Humboldt, the Wings found themselves up against a tough Broncos team who came away with a 5-4 victory, despite a late rally from the Wings.

Humboldt would open the scoring, but Ryker Watt tied things up with 5:39 left on the clock in the opening frame. Daxin Peterson and Cooper Walbaum had the assists for the Wings.

Humboldt would regain the lead with just 20 seconds left in the period, then started the second on a tear. They scored two more quick goals to open the middle period, jumping out to a 4-2 lead.

Peterson would pull Weyburn to back within two with a goal at the 9:03 mark of the second, assisted by Walbaum. Ty Boren would help close the gap in the third, as he scored with 15:48 left, assisted by Borschowa. The Wings would then even things up 4-4 as Ty Mason scored a power play goal, assisted by Dallen Oxelgran.

The Broncos would find a way to get the puck in the net one more time, though, scoring the game-winner with 8:32 remaining in the period.

The Bantam Wings closed out the road trip with a matinee in Warman against the Wildcats Sunday. The Wings came out firing and picked up a 5-3 victory to close out the trip.

The Wildcats would be the first on the board, picking up the lone goal in the first period. Weyburn would respond, though, with Watt getting his second of the trip just 3:43 into the second period. He was assisted on the goal by Mason.

Mason would score a goal of his own before the period was over, lifting Weyburn to a 2-1 lead. Ty Boren had the helper on the goal.

Warman would tie things up again in the third period with a power-play goal. The Wings weren’t finished, though, and turned things up. It started with a goal from Walbaum at the 10:00 mark of the final period, assisted by Mason.

Mason would then score his second of the game five minutes later, an unassisted tally which would prove to be the game winner.

Warman scored once more, with 1:05 remaining to pull within one, but an unassisted empty-netter from Ryker Watt sealed the deal for the Wings.

After the road trip, the Wings are now tied for second in the SAAHL Bantam South Division, with a record of 4-5. They are back in action Tuesday when they host the Regina Monarchs at Crescent Point Place.
