The road to Hoopla for 4A teams will pass through Weyburn this weekend. The senior boy and senior girls basketball teams from WCS will be hosting one of the regional playdowns set for across the province, as the teams vy for the chance to play for a provincial title.

The 4A boys tournament will feature the WCS Eagles, Johnson Collegiate out of Regina, and Humboldt. The 4A girls tournament will include Warman and Balgonie. Bedford Road from Saskatoon was to play in the girls regional, but they withdrew from the tournament.

The tournaments will be played in the Eagles Gym at the Comp. The boys, who enter the weekend as the number one ranked team in 4A, will receive a bye to the final, set for 11:45 a.m. Saturday. The girls will also receive a bye thanks to their number four ranking, and play in the final at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Tickets for the tournament at $6.00 for adults, $.00 for students, and those in grade 6 and lower get in for free.

The teams from the Comp won’t be the only schools from the southeast represented at regionals this weekend. Estevan, due to the size of the student population, will be playing in the 5A qualifier. The boys head up to Prince Albert, while Estevan hosts the girls tournament.

In the 3A competition, Oxbow travels up to Regina Christian School for their regional qualifier, while there are no teams from the southeast in the regionals for the 3A grouping.

In the 2A regionals, Carlyle will head up to Saskatoon, where they will play in the regionals hosted at Ecole Canadienne. Radville is off to Kinistino for the girls 2A regional qualifier.

In the 1A girls regionals, Gladmar will make the trip up to Kenaston for the tournament, while Fillmore travels to Lake Lenore for their regional qualifier. Stoughton is also in Lake Lenore for the 1A boys regional, and Coronach is in Middle Lake.

The winners of the regional tournaments this weekend advance to Hoopla, which is scheduled for March 23rd to 25th in Regina. The schedule for Hoopla will be released next week, once the regionals are wrapped up.
