The baseball season is still just over four months away, but the Weyburn Beavers are hard at work recruiting for the coming season. The recruiting included bringing a new coach on board, as the team announced Beau Rabedeaux would be stepping into the role as assistant coach, working with Phil Curtis.

Rabedeaux was a pitcher with the Beavers in 2017, coming up to play after his senior year at the University of Jamestown in North Dakota. Now, Rabedeaux is working on his Masters at William Penn University in Iowa, where he also works as a grad assistant with the school’s baseball team.

In the fall, Rabedeaux talked to Weyburn Beavers head coach Phil Curtis about coming to the team, as he looks to gain experience as a coach.

“Being a 22-year-old assistant coach in that league (WCBL), I know that will be a great resume-builder for me, and I had a great experience as a player there in 2017,” Rabedeaux said by phone from Iowa.

Already, Rabedeaux has been hard at work recruiting for the season. He receives a list of players from Curtis and gets to work on bringing them to the Opportunity for the summer.

“Right now, we’re shooting for those Division I type calibre guys to build our roster with, and with the record Weyburn’s had in the last three, four years, and the success they’ve had, it really makes recruiting a lot easier.”

Rabedeaux is also looking forward to returning to Weyburn, after the great experiences he had back in 2017.

“I had a great experience with Allie and Cam Klippenstine, who were my billets when I was there, get to see some of the everyday fans reconnect with coach Curtis, and then I actually will be able to coach some of my former teammates who were at Jamestown, and I’m coming up with two of my players from here at William Penn.”

Rabedeaux added he is grateful for the organization, and excited for the experience, and is looking forward to a great summer with a lot of wins.

The Beavers will start their season on May 29th, when they take on the Swift Current 57’s.
