The Weyburn Beavers scored five runs in the third inning en route to an 11-5 win over the Regina Red Sox Friday night. The win clinched the WMBL East Division semi finals for the Beavers, who will now face the Swift Current 57’s in the finals.

Weyburn started the scoring in the second inning when Carlos Flores hit his second home run of the playoffs. He would finish the game with two RBI.

The Beavers then opened up the dam in the third. Taking advantage of two errors by the Red Sox defense, Brett Young, Luis Jimenez, Anthony Wiggins, Zach Frazier and Flores all drove in runs. The offense continued into the fourth, as Jimenez took the first pitch of the inning yard, and the Beavers added two more runs. Weyburn added three more runs in the fifth inning.

Regina managed to get on the board in the third inning when Derek Slate hit a home run, his first hit of the series. Regina would add another run in the bottom of the fifth, and three in the eighth.

On the mound, Connor DiNaro had a strong game, going seven innings, striking out two, and giving up two runs on four hits. Cody Pamperin pitched the eighth and gave up three runs while striking out one. Eric Evans finished the game off in the ninth, holding the Red Sox at bay.

Weyburn will now get ready for the Swift Current 57’s. The first game is tentatively scheduled for Monday night, in Swift Current. Game two is Tuesday in Swift Current, then the series shifts to Weyburn for game three Wednesday night.
