The Weyburn Beavers are in new territory this season. For the first time this year, they have lost three games in a row, dropping a 6-5 extra innings decision to the Medicine Hat Mavericks Tuesday night. The loss closes out the team’s Alberta road trip and was the second walk-off win for the Mavericks in a row over Weyburn.

The Beavers did have a 4-1 lead heading into the ninth inning. The lead was built up with RBI’s in the sixth inning from Drake Pilat and Keaton Greenwalt, followed by two RBI’s from Felix Correa in the seventh.

In the ninth, though, the Mavericks recovered.

A triple from Jaxson Hoage cashed in two runs, and a sacrifice fly two batters later brought in the game-tying run.

In the tenth, the Beavers did take the lead, as Greenwalt got his second RBI of the night with a double bringing home Correa

Medicine Hat rallied in the bottom of the inning, though, as they scored a run off a double by Louie Canjura, then the game-winning run came across the plate after a walk when the bases were loaded.

Daniel Crooks got the start for the Beavers, and went eight innings, allowing just the single run while striking out two. Eric Evans came on for the save in the ninth, but for the second game in a row, didn’t get it, as he allowed three runs to tie the game.

Shandon Herrera was tagged with the loss, as he was credited with two runs after going for a third of an inning in the tenth. Reid Wall finished the game off.

The Beavers will be back to the familiar ground of Saskatchewan teams for their next two games before returning home Sunday. They are in Melville to face the Millionaires Thursday, and in Swift Current on Friday.
