The Weyburn Beavers found themselves in familiar territory Thursday night as they looked to end a three-game losing skid. They were down late in the game, and the opposition had just put in a new pitcher. As they have done all season, the Beavers lit up the opposing bullpen to rally from behind, overcoming a five-run deficit to beat the Melville Millionaires 12-7 at Pirie Field in Melville.

The Beavers were led offensively by the bats of Drake Pilat, Keaton Greenwalt and Wade Weinberger, who all had home runs in the game. Felix Correa went 4-for-4 at the plate while stealing three bases and adding an RBI. Corey Harrell had two RBI in the game as well.

All three of the home runs came in the seventh inning for the Beavers, as they looked to close the five-run gap with the Millionaires. Pilat started things off with a two-run shot. Then, Keaton Greenwalt sent a two-run blast over the fence, and Weinberger added a solo home run as the Beavers evened the game up.

In the eighth, Weyburn took the lead and didn’t look back. Correa was walked to start off the inning. The next batter, Pilat, was walked as well. Correa then stole third base and was brought home on a single by Harrell.

In the ninth, the Beavers would add four more runs as they loaded the bases. Pilat was struck by a pitch, which brought in Ty Scott. A single from Harrell cashed in Corey Wheaton. Two more runs came in with a double by Weinberger to close out the inning.

On the mound, Chase Thometz got the start for the Beavers. He went 5 ⅔ innings, striking out four, but giving up seven runs, five of them earned. Ken Williams then came on to relieve him, and the Renton, WA native allowed just one hit while striking out one in 2 ⅓ innings of work.

After a rough time in his previous two outing, Eric Evans was looking to shake things off as he came out to pitch the final inning. After a fly out to the catcher by the lead-off batter, Evans proceeded to strike out the next two batters on seven pitches to finish the night off.

The Beavers will now head to Swift Current for the final game of their road swing. They take on the 57’s Friday night. They return home on Sunday when they host the Regina Red Sox at Tom Laing Park.
