The Weyburn Beavers committed four errors Wednesday night as they took on the Melville Millionaires. Unfortunately, all the errors came in the top of the ninth inning. As a result, Melville was able to capitalize, and scored four runs, going on to beat the Beavers 5-3 at Tom Laing Park. It is the fourth time the Millionaires have beaten the Beavers this season.

The Beavers had taken a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning and held onto it for most of the game. Starting pitcher Carson Perkins, making his second start of the season, went six innings, giving up just the one run while striking out six. Brodie Stairs, Beau Rabedeaux, and Cody Pamperin combined to finish the game off, but it would be Pamperin tagged with the loss, as he was on the mound in the ninth.

The Millionaires began their rally in the final frame when they were able to get two base runners on after errors on two separate at-bats. Another error allowed a run to come in, then the game was tied after a fielder’s choice. A single from Shoma Sasaki drove in the go-ahead run for Melville, and they would add one more before the end of the inning.

After the loss, the Beavers three games back of Regina and Swift Current for first in the East Division. Weyburn will look to close the gap Thursday when they host the Regina Red Sox at Tom Laing Park. The Beavers took two games from the Red Sox at Currie Field in Regina earlier this week. The game Thursday starts at 7:05 p.m.
