It took 11 innings for a winner to be decided, and when was all finished, the Regina Red Sox were the ones on top, as they edged by the Weyburn Beavers 6-5 at Tom Laing Park Tuesday night. The WMBL East Division Final is now tied up at one game each, with the series shifting to Regina for games three and four.

The night started out with the Beavers repeating what they did in game one, and in most of the games in the first round, and that is opening a quick lead. Wade Weinberger was the one who got the ball rolling with a three-run shot in the first inning, putting the second pitch he faced over the wall in right, and Weyburn headed into the dugout up 3-1.

The Red Sox bounced right back, though, with two runs scoring in the top of the second to even the game up.

The two teams would then go scoreless until the ninth inning when Regina jumped out to a 4-3 lead with a sacrifice fly to centre from Jahshua Jones which cashed in Adam De La Cruz. The Beavers would reply in the bottom of the ninth.

Cam Williams hit a single to center with the bases loaded, bringing home Weinberger.

With just one out remaining, it looked like the Beavers were poised to be able to get the walk-off win. The final two batters though struck out, forcing the extra innings.

In the top of the tenth, Erik Crossman hit a solo home run for the Red Sox, putting them up 5-4, and putting the pressure on the Beavers for their half of the inning.

Weinberger took it as a challenge, and for the second time in the game, took the second pitch of an at-bat yard, with a towering home run over the fence in right. The game was again tied, 5-5, as the teams headed to an eleventh inning.

In the eleventh inning, the Red Sox again took the lead, this time, a wild pitch. A pitch hit the dirt, allowing the eventual game-winning run to cross the plate as it eked by catcher Omar Prieto.

In the bottom of the eleventh, the Beavers were able to get a runner on base, as Felix Correa hit a single to right. Weyburn wasn’t able to capitalize, though, with the game ending in a 6-5 final.

On the mound, Dan Crooks went six innings, striking out nine and giving up three runs. In relief, Shandon Herrera took over for two innings. Herrera surrendered three hits in two innings of work while striking out three.

In the top of the ninth, Eric Evans took over for the Beavers. Evans gave up one run, unearned, while striking out one.

Brodie Stairs then pitched the tenth inning, surrendering the home run from Crossman, but striking out one. Chandler Casey was on the mound for the 11th and was tagged for the loss.

In addition to the two home runs, Weinberger went 3-for-5 at the plate with four RBI. Williams also went 3-for-5 with an RBI.

Games three and four in the series are in Regina, with the games played Wednesday and Thursday nights. Game five, if necessary, will be back in Weyburn on Friday.
