The Swift Current 57’s took advantage of fielding miscues by the Weyburn Beavers, then held them off to win 3-2 Saturday night. The loss is the first this season at Tom Laing Park for the Beavers.

The 57’s put their first two runs on the board in the third inning. Blake Adams drove in two runs on a single he was able to stretch out to reach third base after an error by Beavers left fielder Wade Weinberger. The 57’s would make it a 3-0 lead in the sixth when Matt Bondarchuk scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Bodie Cooper.

The Beavers would get on the board in the bottom of the inning. Brady Nygaard put a double into left field that brought home Ulysses Fluellen and Brett Young. From there, the defenses scored, with both teams threatening, but neither one able to add any more runs.

Beavers starter Landon Mostellar went 7 ½ innings, striking out four, and giving up three runs, none earned, in the loss. He was relieved in the eighth by Beau Rabedeaux, who struck out two in 1 ⅔ innings of work.

For the 57’s, Matt Michalski went seven innings, striking out two, and giving up two earned runs. Aiden Goodall worked two innings on the mound for the save.

The Beavers and 57’s will face each other again Sunday afternoon at Tom Laing Park. The game starts at 2:05 p.m.
