The Weyburn Beavers have won eight games in a row after they rallied back from an early 3-0 deficit to beat the Yorkton Cardinals 7-5 Sunday. The win improves their record to 8-2 on the year and puts them into first place in the WCBL East Division, a game up on the Regina Red Sox.

Christian Vick, making his second start of the season for the Beavers, went seven innings in the game, giving up five runs on seven hits. He struck out six of the 35 batters he faced in the game.

At the plate, the Beavers were led by Drake Pilat and Marcus Catalano, who had a pair of hits each. Catalano finished the day with two RBI after a bases-clearing single in the fourth inning. Pilat had one RBI.

Tristan Rodriguez hit his first home run of the season in the sixth inning.

The bullpen continued to be strong for the Beavers, with Jacob Jordan pitching the eighth inning, and Jacob Standridge the ninth. Standridge was credited with his fourth save of the season and has allowed just one hit in four appearances so far this season.

After playing the majority of their games to start the season on the road, the Beavers now prepare for a lengthy homestand at Tom Laing Park. It begins Monday night when they host the Swift Current 57’s at 7:05 p.m.
