It wasn’t the ending many expected for the WMBL East Division Final. The Weyburn Beavers, who had taken the first two games by dominating scores, fell 6-4 in game five Friday night to the Swift Current 57’s. Swift Current now advances to the WMBL CHampionship series against the Edmonton Prospects.

The Beavers started out with the lead, going up 1-0 in the 3rd inning when a single from Ulysses Fluellen brought home, Zach Mathis. In the fifth, the lead grew to 2-0, when Evan Weidner drove in his first of three runs on the night.

Swift Current answered back in the bottom of the fifth when they put up four runs. Starting Beavers pitcher Garrett Waters got out of the inning and faced one more batter before being replaced on the mound by Cody Pamperin.

Weyburn would tie the game up in the seventh inning, when Weidner hit a triple to center, bringing in Luis Jimenez and Mathis. The momentum seemed to be swinging into the favor of the road team heading into the eighth inning.

In the bottom of the eighth, though, the 57’s would get to Pamperin, putting two runners on base. This would end his night after two innings, and two batters, with Ryan JOhnson coming on in relief.

A fielder’s choice brought runners into scoring position, and a walk loaded the bases. One more walk brought in the go-ahead run, and a single from Nick Canas added one more.

The Beavers threatened in the top of the ninth to tie the game up. Jimenez started the inning with a double, but closing pitcher Keil Krumwiede would get three straight outs to finish off the game and the series.
