It was a high scoring affair at Currie Field in Regina last night, as the Weyburn Beavers outlasted the Regina Red Sox to pick up a 10-9 victory. The win moves the Beavers with three games of Regina for first in the East Division and moves them closer to securing a playoff berth.

The Red Sox jumped ou to an early lead, with three runs in the first inning. Weyburn would pull within one in the top of the second, and then tie it up in the third. From there, they would get their first lead of the game, adding one more run in the fourth inning.

In the bottom of the fourth, though, Regina pulled back even, and then ahead in the fifth inning. Weyburn would bounce back, scoring two more runs in the sixth inning, making it a 6-5 game, before a single run in the bottom half of the frame from Regina tied it up again.

Weyburn would then pull ahead for good in the seventh, with two runs coming in courtesy a double by Zach Mathis. In the eighth inning, RBI’s from Anthony Wiggins and Cam Williams gave the Beavers a 10-6 lead. The Red Sox would score three in the bottom of the eighth but would be unable to get the tying or go-ahead runs across the plate.

On the mound, Garrett Waters earned his fifth win of the season for the Beavers. The senior from Mobile, Alabama went seven innings, striking out two, and giving up five earned runs. Beau Rabedeaux and Cody Pamperin finished off the game for the Beavers, with Rabedeaux getting two strikeouts and Pamperin one.

Offensively, the Beavers were led by Mathis and Ty Scott, who had two RBI each. Mathis now has five RBI in the past week for the Beavers.

The two teams meet again Tuesday night in Regina. The Beavers are next at home Wednesday when they host the Melville Millionaires at Tom Laing Park.
