The Weyburn Beavers went into Regina a week ago and routed the Red Sox 12-4. Wednesday night, the Red Sox were looking to repay the favor when they came to Tom Laing Park. with eight runs scored against them in the opening two innings, the Beavers had their five-game winning streak snapped, and the Red Sox got their revenge.

Regina was on the board early, with three runs in the top of the first inning, with three straight batters bringing home three runs. The scoring continued into the second inning. The Red Sox added two more runs before Aden Campbell hit a three-run home run to put Regina up 8-0.

Shortly after the home run, Beavers head coach Phil Curtis then pulled starting pitcher Austin Gurr. The Coaldale, Alberta native was roughed up in his fourth start of the season, giving up eight runs in 1 ⅓ innings. Taking his place was Carson Perkins. The Bienfait product would last six innings, striking out four, and giving up two earned runs. The game was closed out on the mound for the Beavers by Connor Starke, who pitched the last 1 ⅔ innings with one strikeout.

The Beavers would get one back in the bottom of the second, though. Anthony Wiggins brought in Carlos Flores with a single to right field. In the third, the Beavers would continue to chip away at the deficit, with Ulysses Fluellen bringing home Ty Scott on a fielder’s choice.

In the fourth, the offense continued for the Beavers, with Wiggins bringing home Carlos Flores with a bunt single, thanks to an error by the catcher on a throw to first. Wiggins was then brought around home on a Scott single to right.

The four runs in the three innings, though, would be all the offense the Beavers could muster. The Red Sox would add singles in the seventh and eighth innings to put the game out of reach.

The Beavers now embark on their annual Alberta road trip. They will start things off in Edmonton Thursday night, and play there again Friday. Saturday and Sunday will see Weyburn taking on Fort McMurray, before heading to Okotoks for games Monday and Tuesday. The Beavers will be back at home on July 6th, when they host the Yorkton Cardinals.
