The Weyburn Beavers made it two wins in a row over the Swift Current 57’s Sunday night. For the second night in a row, the Beavers picked up a 6-3 win over the defending league champions. The Beavers also have a 5-2 record on the season against Swift Current.

The tone for the game was set on the first pitch from Swift Current pitcher Mitch Guiberson. His offering to Luis Jimenez was taken deep over the left field wall, giving Weyburn an early 1-0 lead.

The 57’s made an effort to stay in the game, with Keil Krumwiede returning the favor in the second inning as he put a blast into left field. It was the second game this season where starting pitcher Landon Mosteller gave up a home run in the second inning, before going on to earn the win.

Mosteller went six innings, striking out eight while giving up two earned runs. The rest of the Beavers pitching staff was stellar as well. Brodie Stairs struck out six batters, facing a total of eight batters in two innings. Eric Evans finished the game off with one strikeout. In all, 15 of the 27 outs for the 57’s came at the hands of the pitchers.

The Beavers had the offense coming from throughout the lineup Sunday night. Zach Frazier had two doubles, while Zach Mathis, Brady Nygaard, Anthony Wiggins and Ty Scott all had doubles as well. Mathis and Scott also had a stolen base each.

Meanwhile, the 57’s were unable to get anything going after the third inning when they were able to take advantage of a wild pitch to score their second run. Mosteller, followed by Stairs, had their stuff working, as they racked up the strikeouts throughout the game.

With a record of 17-14, the Beavers are currently third in the WMBL East Division. They are four games back of Regina for first. They take on the Red Sox in back to back games at Currie Field in Regina Monday and Tuesday, before returning home to face the last place Melville Millionaires Wednesday.
