The Weyburn Beavers are the hottest team in the WMBL right now. They picked up their fifth win in a row Tuesday night, as they held off the Swift Current 57’s for a 7-5 victory. The win moves the Beavers into second place in the East Division, as they sit two games back of the Regina Red Sox for first.

The 57’s were the first to find the scoreboard when Brett Esau cashed in a run with a RBI single in the second. The lead wasn’t long-lived, though, as the Beavers answered back in the top of the fourth.

A sacrifice fly by Cam Williams brought home Brady Nygaard to tie the game up. From there, Ty Scott hit into a fielder’s choice with bases loaded that allowed Evan Weidner to score for Weyburn. The scoring in the top of the inning was finished off with a single to center by Zach Mathis which brought in two more runs.

The 57’s would reply with a run in the bottom of the fourth, but the Beavers were determined to hold on to the lead, and added one more in the top of the fifth, thanks to a RBI from Wade Weinburger. Another RBI from Mathis in the seventh and a sacrifice fly by Wade Weinburger in the eighth would help the Beavers hold onto the lead, as the 57’s hit two home runs in the bottom of the ninth to try to kickstart a rally.

On the mound, Garrett Waters went six innings in the start, striking out four, and giving up three earned runs. Cody Pamperin and Beau Rabedeaux finished off the game for the Beavers, who will now get ready to take on the Regina Red Sox tonight. The game starts at 7:05 p.m. at Tom Laing Park.
