Ty Scott was looking for his first hit of the 2017 season when the Weyburn Beavers traveled to Regina to face the Red Sox Monday night. He ended up breaking his slump with a single in the seventh inning, bringing home two runs to help secure the Beavers a 6-3 victory over the Regina. The win is the third in a row for the Beavers, who are in the middle of a six-game road swing to start the campaign.

Weyburn started out the game strong, with pitcher Garrett Waters going three complete innings before giving up a hit. He would go eight innings, giving up three runs, while striking out six in his first ever WMBL start.

The Beavers reached the board in the top of the third when Brett Young scored Anthony Wiggins on a fielder’s choice. Cam Williams then cracked a double to right which scored Young, and it was followed up by a double from Ulysses Fluellen that scored Williams.

The Red Sox would get one back in the bottom of the fourth when Justin Erlandson scored on a single to right by Jordan Schulz. In the sixth, Broderick Rodocker hit a double to left that brought home Schulz, pulling Regina within one.

The next inning, Weyburn opened the gap back up. With Anthony Wiggins and Carlos Flores on base, Ty Scott hit a single to left. This would score the baserunners, and make it a 5-2 game. Neil Ring then hit a single to center that brought home Scott, making is 6-3 Weyburn.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Red Sox added one more, but it was too little too late. Beau Rabedeaux would come on to finish the game off for the Beavers. The Red Sox put runners into scoring position, but a fly out to right ended the night and preserved the Beavers winning streak.

The Beavers are now off to Melville for a matinee affair, as school children from across that city will be out to watch the game, which starts at 11:05 a.m. Weyburn finishes off their road swing Wednesday night in Yorkton, before their home opener Friday against the Moose Jaw Miller Express.
