A hat trick from Klae Bayda helped the Oxbow Huskies snap a six-game losing streak Tuesday night, as they got past the Coalers 5-3 in Bienfait. The win improves the record for the Huskies to 3-9 on the season.

The scoring opened in the first period when Bayda got the puck past Bienfait goalie Zack Miller at the 11:53 mark. The tally was assisted by Taysen Holt, who finished the game with four points, and Ryley Giblett.

Just under two minutes later, Holt scored a goal of his own to make it 2-0. The goal was assisted by Corey Fitzpatrick and Kolby Fleury.

Before the first period was up, the Coalers got on the board thanks to a goal from Dylan Herzberg. His marker with just under three minutes left was assisted by Jason Hengen and Keegan Malaryk.

The Huskies added to their lead early in the second period, when Bayda scored his second of the game. Assisting the goal was Holt and Fleury.

Just 23 seconds after the Huskies extended the lead to two goals it was cut back down by the Coalers. Levi Kress put the puck past Ethan Veroba, assisted by Blaine Herzberg.

Oxbow wasn’t finished with their scoring in the period, though. With 13:11 left on the clock in the middle frame, Bayda rounded out the hat trick with an unassisted goal.

The Coalers opened the scoring in the third period at the 4:57 mark when Kress scored his second of the game. He was assisted on the power play marker by Dallas Kickley and Blaine Herzberg.

Cutting the lead to 4-3 would be as close as the home team would get in the game, though. The Huskies put things away when Levi Barnstable scored a power-play goal with 10:47 left on the clock. The insurance marker was assisted by Holt and Giblett.

The Huskies will now get ready to entertain the Carlyle Cougars on the weekend. The game is Friday night. Meanwhile, the Coalers are off to Redvers Friday to take on the Rockets.

In Midale, the Mustangs entertained the Wawota Flyers, the second matchup of the season between the two teams. The Flyers had taken the first matchup by a score of 6-5, but this time, it would be a different outcome, as the Mustangs won 2-1.

The Flyers took the lead in the first period when Devin Stewart scored on Derek Tendler. His goal was assisted by Travis Dumaine and Riley Riddell.

The Mustangs tied the game up in the second period thanks to Steven Lindenbach, who was able to find the twine behind Wawota goalie Guillaume Blouin. Braden Kmita and Konrad Prozack assisted on the goal. The Mustangs then took the lead in the third thanks to a power-play goal from Prozack. Taylor Vandesype and Brad Tomiski assisted on the goal which would prove to be the game winner.

The Mustangs will be back in action Friday when they travel to Windthorst to take on the Kipling/Windthorst Oil Kings, while Wawota is now off until Sunday when the Flyers host the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings.
