The playoff picture in the Big Six Hockey League is starting to become a little more apparent, however, there are still a lot of possibilities as we head into the final weekend of the regular season. The Redvers Rockets essentially ensured the Carlyle Cougars can finish no better than third last night, as they beat the Wawota Flyers 10-3. The win gave the Rockets two points to move up into a tie with Carnduff for second place in the standings.

The Rockets wasted little time in jumping out to a lead, as they scored four minutes into the game. Kenton Miller put the puck past Aiden Poirier. The goal was assisted by Brady Gaudet. The Rockets then made it 2-0 70 seconds later as Kevin Mann found the back of the net. His goal was assisted by Miller and Brady Fidierchuk.

Wawota replied just past the halfway mark of the second as Riley Riddell scored on Thomas Bauche. His goal was assisted by Justin Lamontagne and Brady Dinwoodie. From there, the Rockets took the game back over.

With just 2:37 left on the clock in the first period, Todd Gervais scored, with assists going to Remi Lamotte and Dakota Rose. Then, Rose would score a goal of his own before the period was out, assisted by Gaudet.

Redvers added to the lead to start the second period when Kourtlyn Reddick scored at the 4:45 mark, assisted by Lamotte.

The Flyers would close the game to 5-2 late in the third. Taylor Ernst would score, assisted by Riley Riddell and Derek Frater. After the goal, the officials were put to work.

A scrum resulted in the two teams accumulating 74 minutes in penalties, as Sean Jonasson, Justin Perreaux and Rose from Redvers were all handed double minors for roughing and 10-minute misconducts, while similar penalties were handed out to Wawota players Frater and Jordan Fox. Dillon Frater from Wawota and Brady Gaudet from Redvers also received double minors for roughing but didn’t get misconducts.

When the third period started, the Rockets kept pouring it on. At the 2:17 mark Fidierchuk scored, assisted by Craig Gaudet. The goal was followed up by a tally from Jordan Miller four and a half minutes later. The assists on the goal went to Reddick and Brady Gaudet.

The Flyers would respond again, with a goal from Dillon Frater. The unassisted marker seemed to be too little, too late, however, as Wawota was still down 7-3 with 12:37 left on the clock.

The Rockets would proceed to score three more goals in a span of 2:46. Brady Gaudet was responsible for two of the goals. His first assisted by Mann and Fidierchuk, and the second by Craig Gaudet and Mann.

The scoring was rounded out when Kelsey Kenler scored, assisted by Koltyn Miller and Justin Perreaux.

The Flyers now find themselves alone in seventh place in the Big Six standings. With two games remaining, they have an outside shot at moving up into sixth, however, either Bienfait or Midale will have to lose both of their remaining games on the season, and Wawota will have to win both of their remaining games.

The Coalers and Mustangs will meet Thursday night in Bienfait. The game will help to determine which team will be fifth in the Big Six standings.

The Flyers will finish off their season with a game in Carlyle Friday night and a game at home against Oxbow on Saturday. The Rockets will take on Midale at home Friday, and Arcola/Kisbey Saturday.
