REGINA -- There's still plenty left to be decided at the 100th Memorial Cup in Regina.

The Hamilton Bulldogs handed the Acadie-Bathurst Titan their first loss of the tournament with a 3-2 win on Tuesday night at the Brandt Centre and that leaves a whole lot up in the air going into Wednesday.

Hamilton and Acadie-Bathurst will both finish the round robin with 2-1 records, which has them both still in the running to secure the bye to Sunday’s final depending on what happens in the final game of the round robin on Wednesday between Regina and Swift Current.

"Coming into this game, we weathered the storm in the first ten minutes and then once we got going, we got some momentum and we started to really play the way that we're accustom to," said Hamilton head coach John Gruden.

Benjamin Gleason and Nicholas Caamano both scored their first goals of the tournament over the final six minutes of the first period to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 advantage after one.

Jeffrey Truchon-Viel picked up his third of the tournament with 5:49 remaining in the second to make it a one-goal game going into the third, but Bulldogs star Robert Thomas blasted home a big power play goal 1:04 into the final frame that put Hamilton back in front by two.

Samuel Asselin potted his fourth of the Memorial Cup only 2:40 later to cut back into the lead, but the Titan couldn't find the equalizer over the final 16 minutes.

"It's a big win, we did some good things, we did some bad things, but that's hockey and we came out on top, so everyone is happy," said Bulldogs defenceman Riley Stillman.

After losing in the final minute against Regina in the tournament opener, the Bulldogs have now strung together wins on back-to-back nights and feel they have the momentum on their side.

"The first game was a little bit of nerves for everybody and then in Game 2 against Swift Current, we got our legs under us, we put up 60 shots, we played real well and tonight was a battle, they're a hardworking team, they play the right way, so it was a grind and we're happy to come out on top," added Stillman, who finished plus-one with four shots in the win.

The game is a missed opportunity for the Titan, who could have locked up a bye into the final, and four days of rest going into that game, with a win. However, they failed to convert on two late power plays and ended up going 0-for-3 with the man advantage, while the Bulldogs were 2-for-6 on the power play.

"It was a good game, it was a good sixty minutes, but our execution and our PK, we gave them two goals on the same type of play and that's the kind of mistake we can't repeat twice during the same game," said Titan head coach Mario Pouliot. "We had a chance to tie the game, but at the end of the day, we were short by one shot."

Down by one late in the game and on the power play for the final 1:34, the Titan decided against pulling their goalie to preserve their chance at the bye to the final. If Hamilton had won by two, they would have locked up the tiebreaker and the bye.

Pouliot said he's confident in that decision, "It was clear before the game if we were trailing by one, we just played by the book to keep our second chance to go directly to the final if Regina win tomorrow night," he said.

For the Bulldogs, they also had a shot at finishing off a bye to the final with the two-goal lead early in the third, as well as a four-minute power play early in the frame. Gruden said they weren't worrying about any goal differential or tiebreaker, just winning the game.

"If we have to play Friday, we have to play Friday, don't matter because when we play the right way, I believe that we're a very tough team to beat, so if we have to do it the old fashion way like how we got here, that's what we'll have to do," he said.

The Bulldogs will be cheering for the Broncos on Wednesday, while the Titan will be looking for a Pats win in the round robin finale between the two WHL representatives.

The Broncos are also playing for their season as a win would put them into a tiebreaker game against the Pats on Thursday, while a loss sends them home.

Swift Current and Regina meet at 8 p.m. Wednesday night.
