It was a busy weekend in the Moose Mountain Minor Hockey League, with a number of games being played in the Midget division. Both Weyburn Midget A teams were in action, as well as Radville and Milestone.

The action began Friday night, as the Weyburn Aldon Oil Wing splayed host to the Estevan Bears in the Tom Zandee Sports Arena. It would be Estevan coming out on top, picking up a 7-1 victory.

Weyburn was the first to get on the board. Carson Field would score on the power play just 30 seconds into the game, as the Bears took an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty before the puck had even dropped. Evan Englot assisted on the goal. Unfortunately for Weyburn, it would be all the offence they could muster.

Estevan proceeded to score seven unanswered goals, starting with a goal from Carter Bonokoski at the 7:35 mark of the period. Bradey Blondeau put the Bears out front 49 seconds later, and Leighton Mus would score before the end of the period.

In the second period, neither team was able to score, setting up what would be goal-filled, chippy finish to the game.

Mus would score his second of the game just two seconds into the period. Estevan then added another goal as Kaleb Poole scored on the power play with 9:42 left on the clock. Bonokoski scored his second of the game at the 14:43 mark, and with 52 seconds left in the period, Poole notched his second of the game.

The two teams would get heated in the dying minutes of the game. In the third period alone, they combined for 82 minutes in penalties, including a double game misconduct for Mus, and a five minute major for head contact penalty for Weyburn’s Merrick Baht.

The Weyburn Barber Motor Silverado Wings took to the ice Saturday afternoon as the Estevan Wolves were in town. The Wings held a lead heading into the third period, but Estevan was able to edge past Weyburn for a 3-2 win.

The Wings opened the scoring in the first period, when Brett Rogal scored just past the halfway mark of the first. Trey Sandiford assisted on the tally for Weyburn.

The lead would hold until the 7:37 mark of the second, when Joshua Wilson scored for the Wolves.

The Wings were eager to regain the lead, though, and just over a minute later, Sandiford scored a goal of his own. The marker was assisted by Rubin Bobier.

In the third, Estevan came out firing, and managed to pull away with two quick goals. Brennan Strubel tied the game up at 2-2, then a minute later, Devon Zimmerman scored to give the Wolves the lead.

The Radville Nationals played host to Carnduff Saturday evening. The Nats would have the lead after 20 minutes, but Carnduff rallied for a 3-2 victory.

Cole Zeig opened the scoring for Radville with 8:51 left in the first period, assisted by Sage Moule. The lead would make it through the first period, and first intermission, but wouldn't survive the opening minute of the middle period.

Cole Brooks would score for the visiting team just 25 seconds into the second period. The unassisted goal knotted things up 1-1. Then, Carnduff took the lead with an unassisted tally from Kaden Paton.

Before the period could expire, though, Radville would score again. Carson Liebreich added a power play goal, assisted by Brandon Verhelst, to make it a 2-2 game heading into the third.

In the third period, it would be Carnduff who came out on top. Dawson Greenshields scored with just 1:44 left in regulation, making it a 3-2 victory. The goal was assisted by Bryce Gibson and Brett Bonneteau.

In Redvers, the Midget Rockets would come out flying against the Milestone Flyers. Carson Henrion scored a hat trick en route to an 8-3 victory for the home team.

Redvers jumped out to an early lead in the game when Layne Chicoine was able to score just past the halfway mark of the first period. Austin Dufresne and Oliver Poirier assisted on the goal.

The Flyers didn’t take long to respond, as Connor Williams found the back of the net just 57 seconds later. His goal was assisted by Marshall Watson and Brodie Garratt. It would be the only offense the Flyers would be able to find until the dying minutes of the game.

The Rockets would regain the lead with 26 seconds left in the first period, when Trevor Dumaine scored. Layne Chicoine was credited with the assist on the goal.

In the second period, Carson Longphee would add to the lead for Redvers at the 7:08 mark, assisted by Chaz Sylvestre and Aydan Lawless. Lawless would get a goal of his own just over six minutes later, with the assist going to Joshua Duncan.

From there, it would be the Carson Henrion show. He scored 24 seconds after Lawless, unassisted on the tally. His second of the game came with 4:16 left in the second period, and then he would add one more to complete the natural hat trick at the 7:51 mark of the third period, with Seth Poirier getting the assist.

The Rockets would add one more goal in the third, as Oliver Poirier scored a power play marker unassisted with 2:31 on the clock. The goal would set up a flurry of activity, though, as the two teams combined for three goals in 35 seconds.

Zane Short would score his first of two for the Flyers 25 seconds after the Poirier goal, assisted by Mason Beck and Connor Stevens. Short would add another goal 10 seconds later, assisted by Braydon Hansen. The offense came too little, too late, though, as the Rockets would keep Milestone off the board for the remainder of the game to earn the 8-3 victory.
