It was a busy weekend for football for Weyburn, with four teams in action, and an alumni from WCS making waves on Sunday Night Football in the NFL.

It all started Friday night, as the Pee Wee PAR Contracting Ravens travelled up to Moose Jaw to take on the Mustangs. The Ravens were looking to keep their perfect record intact, and secure first overall in the Moose JaW Minor Football League.

The Ravens easily handled their opponents for the final game of the season, winning by a 39-0 final. The Ravens finished the regular season with a record of 6-0, outscoring their opponents by 240 points on the year. They will be hosting the 3-3 Assiniboia Rockets in the semi-finals. The previous meeting between the two teams was a 52-6 win for the Ravens.

The Eagles would come out on the short end of the game, falling 24-0 to the Colts.

Sunday saw the Bantam Young Fellow Falcons hosting the Moose Jaw Razorbacks at Darold Kot Field. The Falcons were looking to avenge their loss earlier in the season against the Razorbacks, and were also looking to take first in the league from the undefeated Razorbacks.

The Falcons wouldn’t get the chance to try to steal first, though, falling 12-7 to close out the regular season. Despite the loss, the Falcons will still be hosting a playoff game, as they finish second in the league. They host the Swift Current Steelers this coming weekend. The time and date have yet to be set. The last meeting between the two teams was a low scoring affair until the fourth quarter, when the two teams opened up on offense, with a final of 34-28 in favour of Weyburn.

The Pee Wee Crescent Point Eagles closed out the regular season Sunday as well, as they played host to the Assiniboia Rockets. The Eagles were looking to cinch up second place in the league with a win, and they did. With a 44-13 final, the Eagles claimed second, and will host the Moose Jaw Vikings in the semi-finals this coming weekend.

Then, Sunday night, a former WCS Eagle got to shine on the NFL stage, as Brett Jones was tagged for the start at centre for the New York Giants. The Weyburn native was also chosen as one of the captains of the team for the game, and for the coin toss.
