It is the opportunity of a lifetime for Weyburn’s Alex Clarke. On the heels of making history when she was part of the first ever all-female officiating crew for a Junior B game in Canada, she is getting ready to head to Edmonton this weekend, where she will be working the lines for the game between the Canadian and American female Olympic teams, in the final game between the two teams ahead of the Winter Games.

“I was pretty shocked,” Clarke said. ”I didn’t really have any pre-warning that I was being considered to do it, or selected, or whatever you want to call it.”

For Clarke, this will be the first time she has officiated a game at this level. She isn’t a stranger to high-caliber play, though. Her average week can see her working both as referee and linesman at various levels.

“I could be working as a linesman in the SJHL one day, reffing a female CIS game the next day, linesing a Midget AAA boys game the next day, and reffing a Midget AA boys game the day after that,” Clarke explained.

She still has a lot of action ahead of her. She will be working the lines in a U18 tournament in Mexico City in January, with other tournaments coming up including the CIS national championships.

Ultimately, she is hoping to be able to make the contingent selected for the 2022 Winter Olympics, which will be held in Beijing, China.
