The McLeod series kicked off with a pair of dramatic finishes in Estevan Tuesday night. The series, which is a four-game total point series involving the senior boys and senior girls basketball teams from Weyburn Comprehensive School, and Estevan Comprehensive School, is in its 83rd year. Estevan has won the past three, with Weyburn capturing 33 in a row before the streak was ended.

The night started off with the senior girl teams on the floor. The two teams went back and forth, right to the final buzzer. It would be the Eagles who would get the win. A buzzer-beater gave Weyburn an 80-79 win.

“Those are the best games to play. Obviously better to win those games, but those are the most fun games when they are tight like that,” explained WCS Senior Girls head coach Karley Johnson.

The second game of the night was another back and forth affair. The Eagles had a halftime lead of 53-38, and it looked like they would be able to take the win before the Elecs came back. At one point trailing by more than 20 points, the Elecs came away with a shocking 100-98 win.

The Estevan Elecs now have a 179-178 lead in the McLeod series. The series comes to Weyburn February 13th.
