It was a successful weekend for Weyburn teams at the Eugene Emberley Memorial Baseball Tournament, played at Jubilee Park. Of the three teams competing, two came home with gold, while the third came up just short of completing the sweep for the hometown teams.

The Mosquito AA Element Beavers opened the tournament against the Estevan Sluggers, falling 14-13. They won their second game 16-4 against Swift Current. From there, they advanced to the semifinals and had a rematch with Swift Current. This time, the 57’s would come out on top, beating Weyburn 11-2.

The Pee Wee AA Century 21 Hometown Beavers went 4-0 in the tournament and doing so with a big outpouring of offense. They beat the Regina White Sox 9-6 in the opening game of the tournament. This was followed up by a 14-2 rout of Carnduff. The Beavers finished off the round robin by topping Dauphin 15-4. In the finals, the Beavers won by a final score of 22-10.

The second team to capture gold at the tournament from Weyburn was the Bantam AAA Beavers. They went 4-0-1 on the weekend, with the biggest win coming in the finals against the Saskatoon A’s. The Beavers rallied back to win the game 5-4. Ethan Ernst pitched 6 ⅓ innings, while Ty Nikolejsin came on to finish the game off.
