The Saskatchewan Roughriders came within one win of advancing to the Grey Cup in their return to the post-season this year.

Their success on the field was evident in the announcement on Tuesday that four Riders were able to crack the CFL All-Star team.

Receiver Duron Carter, offensive guard Brendon LaBatte, defensive end Willie Jefferson and defensive back Ed Gainey were among the group of offensive and defensive players that were named all-stars.

This is the second CFL All-Star nomination for Carter, who led the Riders with 1,043 receiving yards and tied for the team lead with eight touchdowns.

LaBatte just finished his tenth CFL season and this is his fifth CFL All-Star nomination. The Weyburn product played in all 18 regular season games, spending time at guard and center.

This is the first career all-star selection for Jefferson and Gainey.

Jefferson finished with a team-leading eight sacks and led the CFL with 37 quarterback pressures while starting all 18 games this season.

Gainey led the CFL with ten interceptions, returning one for a touchdown. He set the Riders’ single-game record with four interceptions against the B.C. Lions on Aug. 13.
