The U18 Surge from the Weyburn Volleyball Club coming away from Sask Cup 3 with a gold medal on the weekend.

The Surge had their work cut out for them, with the first match of the playoffs at the tournament finishing with a marathon of a game. In the end, the Surge came out on top, beating the Esterhazy Heat (25-20, 32-30), setting up a game against the QCVC Royal Purple in the semifinals.

The Surge took the match in straight games (25-22, 25-18) setting up a game against Huskies Volleyball Club from Saskatoon in the finals.

The back and forth affair saw the Surge take the first game 21-25 before the Huskies rallied back to take the second game 26-24. In the third and decisive game of the match, it was the Surge who came out on top, winning 15-13.

The U16 Warriors finished eighth in Division 2 Tier 1. (photo courtesy Weyburn Volleyball Club/facebook.com)The U16 Warriors found themselves in tough in their groupings at Sask Cup 2. They opened the playoffs in Division 2 Tier 1 against JCVC Crush, who beat them in two straight games.

On the consolation side, they were up against QCVC Royal Purple, who beat them in straight sets as well. The Warriors ended up going up against a strong team from Rose Valley in the seventh-place game, coming up just short in a close match lasting three games, finishing eighth.
