The Midget AAA Richardson Pioneer Gold Wings wrapped up a home-and-home series with the Regina Rebels on the weekend. The first game was a tough one for Weyburn, with the Rebels winning 3-0. The Gold Wings came back for the second game on Sunday, but Regina was able to just hold off the late charge to win 4-2.

In the game Sunday, which was played in Regina, the Gold Wings were the first on the board as Sierra Meroniuk found the back of the net with 2:09 left in the period. The goal was assisted by Kierson Hennes and Payton Mabee. The Rebels would have a strong second period, though, which would make much of the difference in the result.

Regina scored three goals, including two in the final minute of the period, to jump out to a 3-1 lead. The deficit didn’t deter the Gold Wings, though.

Sydney Keddie would score at the 13:51 mark of the third to pull within one. Mahteya Dumelie and Kate Goranson assisted on the goal.

The Rebels would weather the storm from the Gold Wings, though, and added an empty-netter with 47 seconds left in the game.

The Gold Wings will be back in action on the weekend. They are travelling to the Battlefords for a pair of games against the Sharks.
