The Richardson Pioneer Gold Wings Had their first lead of the season Sunday against the Swift Current Wildcats, but the visitors would rally back for a 5-2 win in a matinee at Crescent Point Place.

The Gold Wings found the board first when Jordan Holinaty scored her first of the campaign just before the halfway mark of the first period. Janissa Cooley had the assist on the goal.

The lead was short-lived, though, as Taylor Kirwan from the Wildcats got the puck past Weyburn goalie Amara Lewendon just over a minute later to give Swift Current the edge.

Madison Lafoy restored the lead before the end of the first period. She scored with 3:15 left on the clock, with the assist going to Payton Mabee.

Swift Current would tie it up again early in the second period when Brooklyn Colborn scored 1:13 into the middle frame. Two more goals from the Wildcats in the first six minutes of the period gave them a 4-2 lead.

Neither team was able to solve the goaltenders, despite a number of chances both ways, for nearly 20 minutes, as the next goal didn’t come until the 14:39 mark of the third when Baylee Kirwan added an insurance marker for the Wildcats.

Lewendon finished the game stopping 29 of the 34 shots she faced in her second game as a Gold Wing.

The Gold Wings will now have time to prepare for their next game. They host the Saskatoon Stars at Crescent Point Place on September 30th.
