The Richardson Pioneer Gold Wings were neck and neck with the Prince Albert Bears for the majority of Saturday evening’s game, but an offensive outburst from Prince Albert helped them skate for a 7-3 victory. The Bears, who are guaranteed a second place finish in the standings, scored four times in the third period to get the win. For the Gold Wings, they are still looking for their first win this season and will get one more chance Sunday afternoon when they take the ice once again against the Bears.

The Bears started out with the lead when Miranda Heidt scored at the 8:55 mark of the first period. Weyburn would tie it up before the period was out, though.

Rheanne Peigan scored on the power play with just under five minutes remaining. Katelyn Blair and Madison Lafoy assisted on the goal. Just 1:02 into the second period, Weyburn took their first lead of the game, when Kendra Kotylak also scored on the power play. Mesa Kennedy assisted on the goal.

The Bears would tie it up with a power-play goal of their own before Weyburn once again jumped out front. This time, it was Janissa Cooley who scored, this time at even strength. Jayden Lindholm assisted on the marker.

Just before the period ended, the Bears again tied it up, as Jasper Desmarais scored on Amara Lewendon. Lewendon would end up facing 59 shots on the game.

In the third period, the goals came quick for the Bears, as they took the lead for the first time since the opening period. They never looked back and came away with the 7-3 win.

The Gold Wings may be without Katelyn Blair for the rematch Sunday. The third-year player from Drake, Saskatchewan was handed a game misconduct for checking from behind late in the game and may have to serve a one-game suspension.

After the game today, the playoffs will begin in the coming weeks. The Gold Wings already know their opening round opponents. They take on the Saskatoon Stars. The dates will be set once the regular season concludes.
