Weyburn Minor Football held their annual general meeting Monday night, and it capped off by what could be considered an extremely successful season by all measures.

On the field, the organization fielded one bantam team, two pee wee teams, and an atom program. The bantam and pee wee teams found themselves playing in the Moose Jaw Minor Football League Championship games, with the Bantam Falcons coming up just short, while the Pee Wee Ravens and Eagles played each other, with the Eagles winning.

President of Weyburn Minor Football, Jody Kerr, explained a lot of it wouldn’t be possible without the support of the community.

“All of our field sponsors, team sponsors, and just people who stepped up to help us was just unbelievable this last season.”

The field was also a source of pride for the organization. A project seven years in the making, this year Weyburn Minor Football opened their own football field, adjacent to the grounds they formerly used at Weyburn Comprehensive School. The field was built with the help of a number of sponsors and volunteers.

Financially, the year ended in the black when it came to operating costs, while the field itself, due to some of the costs associated with getting it up and running, ended up with a deficit.

The new season for Weyburn Minor Football will begin in August.
